Oo are yer?

We are a football club based in Hitchin in North Hertfordshire. We have teams for players from seven years of age upwards. Most of  our teams play in the Royston Crow League. They also compete in the Hertfordshire FA County Cup and in summer tournaments. Our managers and administrators are all volunteers, many of them parents of players and former players. Some of them played for Wymondley Park teams themselves. Our home ground is at  Lucas Lane in Hitchin. It's not that easy to find if you are a visiting team so click on the link for a map (Here we are).

The club has been going since the early 1980s. It was established because there was insufficient opportunity for local youngsters to play football in the area. The name comes not from the nearby villages of Great and Little Wymondley (although early matches were played there) but because some of the club's founders lived on Wymondley Park estate in Hitchin. You can find out more about the history of the club by clicking here. We would like to hear from former players and supporters who can help us build up fuller picture of our past.

This site provides information for current players and parents and carers and those who wish to get involved. Teams are often looking for new players, particularly over the summer, so watch out for news or contact us and we will put you in touch with right manager.

Tournament triumph

Congratulations to us! Our first ever tournament was a roaring success and even the bank holiday weather was on our side. WPFC hosted an invitation event for U13, U14 and U15 teams at Lucas Lane with the kind support of North Herts District Council, Crown Miller Automotive, and Kingsmill Bakeries.
WPFC teams made it to the finals in all three age groups with the U13s winning the Crown Miller trophy. The U14s had a good run that included losing 2-1 to Clifton and then beating them 4-1 with a memorable hat trick from Marley, before losing in the final to Hitchin. But the real cliffhanger was the U15 Firesharks match against Arlesey which saw Firesharks take the lead towards the end of normal time with Arlesey equalising in the final minute. In extra time, the Firesharks again went ahead and again the visitors equalised but with only two seconds left on the clock. To pens it went and Arlesey won.
A great day, a fitting way to celebrate the club’s 30th birthday. Well done to all involved - players, coaches, organisers, helpers, spectators.

Welcome back - new season here we come!

The new season is almost upon us. So, it’s time to wish our teams good luck for the coming season – let’s hope it’s as successful as the last. It’s also a great pleasure to welcome our Under 9s team to the club. Although the team is newly registered, the players have been in training with Winston for some months. We want them to enjoy their football, develop their skills and stay with the club for many years to come. Some younger players are training with them, so we may have the makings of another team for next season if someone wants to step forward as a potential coach.
In the past we’ve told you about contact from former players and officials from our 30 year history. Well, we’ve just heard from one former player that there is now an adult team playing locally called Wymondley Old Boys and made up largely of ex-WPFC maestros. We hope to have more contact with them in the future and want them to keep us updated on their season.

Players wanted

OThe new season may be upon us but some of our teams are still on the look out for players so, if you are looking for a team, drop us an email.

Support your club

There are plenty of ways you can help secure the club's future. The first is the one you’ll really like.
  • You shop on the internet and when you make a purchase, Wymondley Park gets a donation from the shop or company you buy from. It’s easy, it’s secure and it has over 650 big companies signed up from shoe shops to music stores, books shops to ticket sales, insurance companies and electricity companies to sports shops and electrical goods. John Lewis, Dell, Next, Argos, Amazon, JD Sports, HMV, M&S … they are all there. Just go to Easyfundraising at http://easyfundraising.org.uk/ and sign up – it takes 30 seconds. Select Wymondley Park FC as your good cause and shop away. Don’t forget to make http://easyfundraising.org.uk/ a favourite on your computer so you help the club out every time you shop.  And get friends and relatives to do the same. If everyone uses it, this is a really effective way of getting us some money.
  • Times are tough but perhaps you can afford a small regular donation to the club. If you bank online you can set up a standing order in a couple of minutes. A couple of quid a month would be good, a fiver would be fantastic. All you need is: payee’s name – Wymondley Park Football Club; sort code 60-11-10 and account number 61887773       .
  • Does your employer run a sponsorship scheme for good causes? Lots do but often no-one knows about them. Please remember to ask at work. In a big company you may have to ask the human resources department. In a company with local branches, like a supermarket or bank, the district manager may be able to make awards.
  • Are you a member of an organisation like the Round Table that might make a grant to the club? If so, please get in touch to discuss what sorts of applications are welcome. We can send someone along to address a meeting and make our case, if that helps.
  • Your ideas and help are vital. If you have a money-raising idea and can help put it into practice, let us know.

Child welfare

At Wymondley Park FC the welfare of our players is paramount. If you have any issues you wish to discuss with our welfare officer, we have set up a dedicated email address to which only she will have access. You can find it in the left hand column of this page.
